Costs

The department was established in March 2000 due to a general dissatisfaction from some of Horwich Farrelly’s insurer clients at the level of service they were receiving from their existing costs negotiators. 

It receives approximately 60,000 cases per year. This includes predictive costs (PCR), pre-litigated cases, litigated cases and bespoke advice. The department handles road traffic accidents, employers' liability and public liability matters.

Run by partner Nicola Critchley, the department has 50 staff members, and is split into teams with each team headed by a senior and experienced costs negotiator. There is a dedicated technical team which deals with the larger bills and test litigation. The department has its own advocacy team that deals with the costs hearings.
